Charity in Winter: Why Giving Matters More in Cold Months
Kaffarah feeds the needy and it is an obligatory religious donation to help those most in need. Kaffarah is made when a Muslim deliberately misses a fast or intentionally breaks their fast without a valid reason. To atone for their broken fast, religious tradition states that adult Muslims must fast continuously for 60 days. If you are unable to fast consequently for 60 days, the requirement is to provide one person with two meals a day, for two months.
Keep on reading to find out the Kaffarah amount for 2021.
Now that you know what Kaffarah is, you need to know how to pay it.
With Penny Appeal, it costs £2 per meal, so the total Kaffarah amount due would be £240.
All adult Muslims must pay Kaffarah during Ramadan if they miss a fast or make a fast invalid without a good reason and they cannot fast at a later time for 60 continuous days. Below is a list of examples of how a fast can be broken or made invalid:
Intentionally eating food or drinking water during fasting hours
Masturbation or sexual intercourse during fasting
Intentionally making yourself throw up
Planning or intending to deliberately miss fasts
Deliberately hurting yourself or any other person or animal
The donations received through Fidya and Kaffara have always traditionally been used to feed the hungry and the poor, and at Penny Appeal we honour this Muslim custom.
All Fidya and Kaffara donations are channelled exclusively to our food aid programme, Feed Our World, and also to our Emergency Response appeal to feed people devastated by war, natural disasters and the coronavirus pandemic.
Working with experienced delivery partners and major UK Muslim charities, we use your Fidya and Kaffara to deliver nutritious, life-saving meals to poor and needy Muslims living in the most desperate conditions.
By atoning for missed fasts with Penny Appeal, you can benefit the world’s poorest people and satisfy your religious obligations at the same time.
Every Penny Helps Thank you.
