Remembering Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) on the 10th Day of Ramadan
As we commemorate the 10th day of Ramadan, let us pause to reflect on the life and legacy of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (أم ٱلْمُؤْمِنِين - “Umm al-Mu'minin" or "Mother of the Believers”), the esteemed wife of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), whose devotion to Islam continues to inspire believers around the world.
Khadijah (RA) was the first person to profess Islam following Muhammad’s (ﷺ) receiving of his first revelations, and a pivotal figure in the early history of Islam. On this solemn occasion – the anniversary of her passing – we remember her unwavering commitment to Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (ﷺ), her unparalleled sacrifices for the sake of Islam, and her enduring legacy of love and compassion.
Khadijah (RA) occupies a unique place in the hearts of believers, revered for her exceptional virtues and steadfast support of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during times of great difficulty in the early days of Muslims in Mecca. Her marriage to the Prophet (ﷺ) symbolised a union of hearts and souls, founded on mutual love, respect, and devotion to Allah (SWT). Despite facing numerous trials and hardships, their bond remained unshakeable during her lifetime, serving as a model of marital harmony and spiritual partnership for believers throughout the ages.
As the first individual to accept Islam due to the message of the Prophet (ﷺ), Khadijah was the first convert in a trajectory that eventually spanned much of the globe, resulting in an Ummah that is today built of over 1.8 billion people. The words of the Holy Qur’an, originally revealed to Muhammad (ﷺ) over 1400 years ago, are still changing lives the world over. Alhamdulillah, in the original tradition of memorisation, its timeless words continue to be memorised by new generations of Hafiz. As we commemorate the 10th day of Ramadan, let us honour the memory of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) by emulating her exemplary virtues. Let us strive to follow in her footsteps by supporting the cause of Islam, serving humanity, and spreading peace and goodwill in our communities and beyond.
On this day, let us heed the words of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), who described Khadijah (RA) as the best among the women of her time, and whose love and devotion continue to inspire believers to this day. May Allah (SWT) bless her soul and grant her the highest ranks of Jannah, and may her legacy continue to shine brightly as a beacon of faith and righteousness for all eternity. Ameen.
