Qurbani in Disaster-Stricken Areas: A Focus on Palestine

Did you know that the ‘once a year’ obligation we must make in order to honour the Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) unwavering devotion to Allah (SWT) can actually help save lives in disaster-stricken areas? Over the years, Penny Appeal has distributed over 33 million Qurbani meals to some of the world's most needy families, many of whom have been subject to natural disaster or grappled by the reality of conflict, and this year, the need is even more severe.  

As Palestine remains under relentless bombardment, ground invasion, and now starvation, it becomes easy for us to slip into a state of hopelessness and helplessness. This Eid ul-Adha will be like no other for the millions of innocent Palestinians in Gaza who find themselves trapped in the most devastating cycle of destruction.  

This year, as in previous years, Penny Appeal recognises the incredible importance of having the option to give Qurbani in disaster-stricken areas like Palestine, which is why we have worked round the clock to ensure our partners on the ground can perform and distribute your Qurbani without compromising on ethics and Islamic guidelines.  

Due to a relentless besiege, thousands of families have been living off canned foods in Gaza for over 7 months – Subhan’Allah! Through hours of planning, Penny Appeal have been able to make Qurbani distributions possible across Palestine, so vulnerable families can enjoy nutritious meat on Eid. In desperate times like these, we must remember the strength and power of giving.
