Mawlid al-Nabi: Living the Prophet’s (PBUH) Teachings Through Everyday Giving
Eid Milad-un-Nab(ﷺ) Mubarak!
As we revel in the blessings of the sacred month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, we prepare to commemorate Mawlid al-Nabi - the blessed day the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) graced the world with his luminous, blessed presence. Falling on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal each year, this occasion is a moment for the Muslim community to pause, reflect, and renew our commitment to embodying his timeless message of mercy, compassion, and giving.
At Penny Appeal, we see Mawlid not just as a celebration, but as an invitation to live the Prophet’s (ﷺ) teachings in our daily actions. A beautiful guiding tradition during this time is increasing acts of kindness and Sadaqah sharing, caring, and supporting those most vulnerable around us.
Charity as a Living Legacy
One touching example from our own work is the Hifz Orphan programme, inspired by the Prophet’s own childhood as an orphan. From just £21 a month, supporters give orphaned children the chance to grow in safety, nurturing, and education, with a goal to help them become Hafiz of the Qur’an themselves.
Whether it’s sponsoring an orphan, funding wells that bring life-giving water to communities, supporting food relief, or providing educational resources - each act of giving reflects the heart of the Prophet’s mission: to uplift, to comfort, to preserve human dignity.
Rooted in Devotion, Blossoming in Unity
Mawlid is rich with traditions that bring communities together. From reciting Qur’an verses, poetry in praise of the Prophet (naats or qasidas), and dhikr circles - these practices stir the soul and inspire collective remembrance of the Prophet’(ﷺ) character.
As we gather - whether in mosques, homes, or virtually - we open our hearts to teachings of peace, unity, and service. And what more fitting way to live those teachings than by offering a helping hand to someone in need?
Small Change, Big Impact
At Penny Appeal, our mission has always been to turn small contributions into lasting change. From our founding in 2009 to now serving millions across over 30 crisis-affected countries, we’ve built wells, supported orphan care, delivered meals, and more - all by combining the compassion of everyday givers with strategic impact.
This Mawlid, let’s extend that legacy. Let every securely placed donation - or even a heartfelt deed - echo the Prophet’(ﷺ) mercy, his love for the needy, and his vision of an Ummah united in empathy.
How You Can Make Mawlid Meaningful
- Sponsor a Hifz Orphan from £21 per month and become a lifeline for a child’s future.
- Give Sadaqah or Zakat, contributing where the need is greatest.
- Share food, water, or comfort - even small gestures harbor tremendous blessing.
- Join us in remembrance, recitation, and community gatherings that uplift and educate.
In honoring Mawlid al-Nabi, we actively continue history through generosity, care, and the pursuit of collective wellbeing.
May this blessed season be one of renewal, reflection, and renewed purpose. May our giving reflect our faith, our love for the Prophet (ﷺ), and our shared commitment to a kinder, more compassionate world.
