Penny Appeal Welcomes the Charity Commission Investigation Closure
The Charity Commission's decision to satisfactorily end its review into Penny Appeal has been welcomed by the Board of Trustees. In closing the case, the Assistant Director for Casework at the Charity Commission, Tracy Howarth, acknowledged the improvements that have been made at Penny Appeal after several years of engagement and noted that the actions already taken have strengthened how the charity is run. Penny Appeal would like to acknowledge the guidance provided by the Charity Commission and recognise that the organisation has improved its governance as a result. The Trustees and leadership team at Penny Appeal are committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of our organisation as we continue to assist people through the generous support of our donors from all over the United Kingdom. Strengthened governance not only ensures compliance with regulatory standards but also enhances our ability to serve vulnerable families, communities, and individuals in need. By maintaining robust and transparent processes, we can deliver more effective programmes, be more accountable, and ultimately make a greater difference in the lives of those we support. The Chairman of the board of trustees, Mr. Mohamed Jahangir, commented on the closure of the case as follows: “I would like to thank the Charity Commission for the support and guidance they have provided Penny Appeal over the last number of years. The Board acknowledges the historical governance weaknesses which were in the organisation. These undermined people’s trust and confidence in our organisation. The board of Trustees and leadership team have implemented the necessary corrective actions and recommendations outlined by the Charity Commission. We are a stronger organisation as a result. I would also like to thank our donors who have continued to support us to help those in need in the United Kingdom and throughout the world. Our focus in Penny Appeal will continue to be helping others while operating to the highest standards of charity governance. In this way we will continue to make a positive impact in peoples lives while at the same time retaining the trust and confidence of our generous donors. Thank you.”
