Give the best charity!
Unsafe water isn’t just a crisis—it’s a death sentence for the world’s most vulnerable communities. Every sip of contaminated water carries the risk of deadly disease, turning a basic human necessity into a daily gamble with life. The toll is staggering: every year, unsafe water claims the lives of an estimated one million people. The cost of inaction? More suffering, more preventable deaths, and a future where the poorest continue to pay the highest price.
Here at Penny Appeal, we believe that every community deserves access to clean, safe drinking water. That's why we've been providing sustainable water solutions to the world's most vulnerable communities for over 15 years! We've provided over 9.2 trillion glasses of water and counting - Alhamdulillah.
Perform the purest act of Sadaqah Jariyah and build a well today and you can give life by the grace of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) to a community in desperate need.
After all, our noble Prophet (ﷺ) told us first: “The best form of charity is to give someone water to drink” [Ibn Majah]
Muhammad's Story
Muhammad grew up surrounded by rivers, yet for his family of 14, clean drinking water was always out of reach. They had no option but to rely on nearby ponds and rivers, trying their best to purify the dirty water, but the risk of sickness was a constant threat. Every day, they lived in fear of waterborne diseases, and the cost of a tube well was simply beyond their reach.
Then, thanks to Penny Appeal and generous donors like you, a life-changing tube well was installed after carefully assessing the needs of six families in Muhammad’s community. This simple but powerful solution cost just £300-a one-off gift that’s less than 82p a day or £25 a month. For the first time, clean, safe water flowed straight from the ground. No more long, tiring walks or illness from contaminated water. Water was now available right at their doorstep. Because of this gift, Muhammad’s family can live without fear, focusing on a hopeful future. They pray donors like you will keep bringing this life-changing gift to families in desperate need. Your support gives more than water- it gives dignity, health, and hope. Will you help bring this gift to more families today?

Deep Wells: A Lifeline for Generations
Give the gift of clean water, change lives for decades to come!
The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ibn Majah)
Millions Are Dying Without Clean Water- You Can Change That Across Pakistan, Kashmir, Bangladesh, and Somalia, countless families struggle every single day for the most basic gift of life: safe, clean water. Mothers and children walk for hours under the scorching sun, carrying heavy containers along dangerous paths, only to bring home water that isn’t even safe to drink. The human cost is devastating. Each year, 1.5 million people lose their lives to waterborne illnesses, many of them children under the age of five. This suffering is entirely preventable. With your help, we can bring clean water to communities, save lives, and give families the safety, health, and hope they deserve.
Why Deep Wells?
A deep well isn’t just a water source; it’s a lifeline that lasts for decades. Unlike shallow wells, deep wells tap into cleaner, more reliable underground water supplies. They can serve entire communities for 10–15 years, even in regions hit by drought and climate change.
With your support, Penny Appeal builds deep wells in the areas that need them most, identified through careful on-the-ground assessments in Pakistan, Kashmir, Bangladesh, and Somalia.
What Your Deep Well Provides
- Protect Health – Prevent deadly diseases by providing safe, clean drinking water.
- Empower Women & Children – Free them from long, dangerous water treks, giving children the time to attend school and women the chance to earn an income.
- End Hunger – Enable families to grow crops and keep livestock healthy.
- Break the Cycle of Poverty – Clean water means better health, better education, and better opportunities.
From Thirst to Thriving
Imagine the joy of a mother in rural Pakistan when her children can finally drink without fear of illness. Imagine the relief of a farmer in Somalia whose crops no longer wither away. Imagine the dignity restored to an elderly man in Bangladesh who can perform wudu without walking miles. This is the power of your donation- hope, health, and a future.
The Cost of Change
For just £25 a month, or £300 one-off, you can build a deep well that will serve a community for years to come. That’s less than 82p a day to give families clean water — not for a day, not for a month, but for a decade.
Be the Reason They Smile Again
In the Qur'an, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُوَتَعَالَى) reminds us:
“…and We made from water every living thing.” (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:30)
Water is life. And right now, you can be the one who gives it. Build a deep well today in Pakistan, Kashmir, Bangladesh, or Somalia. Save lives. Restore dignity. Transform futures.

What can I put on my plaque?
The plaque is your opportunity to personalise the well you have built for the poor and in need. Whatever you choose to put on your plaque will be there for everyone to see whenever they use the well to draw fresh, clean and potentially life-saving water. The plaque must be 50 characters or less and you could put the well in your name or the name of a loved one, or even in the memory of a loved one as part of their legacy. Some people choose to build a well in the name of The Prophet (ﷺ) and his family or use a short Hadith. If you are building a well on behalf of your business you could put the name of your organisation on the plaque. It is your chance to make the life-changing donation your own.
How many people will benefit from the well?
Each well benefits a huge number of people over its lifetime. Think about how often you use water each day – to drink, to shower, to wash clothes, to cook, to clean and for other daily activities – your well will be used by several families or whole villages doing all those things and more every day for years to come. It’s a lot of benefit for something so simple! Reliable access to clean, safe water is life-changing as it means that people in the countries that need it most have less chance of developing serious diseases like diarrhoea which to us doesn’t seem life threatening, but can be catastrophic for a remote and poor village. It also reduces the risk of the spread of cholera, which is a fatal contagious disease caused by contaminated water.
How long will it take to build my well and get feedback?
Once we receive your full payment, we’ll begin the process of building your well. This can take up to 12 months, depending on the location. There are many careful steps involved like choosing the right site, sourcing materials, construction, plaque installation, and making sure the water is safe. After that, our teams take photos and send everything back to us so we can share it with you. Many of the areas we work in are remote and can be affected by things like floods, conflict, or limited infrastructure, which can cause delays. That said, we’re deeply committed to keeping things moving and giving you your feedback as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience and for making such a life-changing difference.
How are the locations for wells chosen?
Wells are installed according to where there is the greatest need for clean, safe water. Penny Appeal’s teams on the ground carefully select the location for each well based on their knowledge of the community and the geological survey they commission to ensure there is an adequate water source below the ground. This ensures that your donation has the widest effect possible; making sure it benefits the largest number of people or in the remotest village where it is needed most.
What is the lifespan of the well?
The average lifespan of a Thirst Relief well is 10 years. Communities value their water pumps very highly and take great care to look after them. However, there are variables that cannot be predicted. For example, floods in Pakistan destroyed thousands of wells and contaminated water tables. Many locations needed wells reinstalling and many hand pumps were destroyed and had to be replaced. Before we install a well we always make sure that the community can take responsibility for maintenance and security – this is not usually a problem as they are keen to take ownership and ensure they have reliable access to clean water for many years. However, it is of course impossible for us to predict such things as natural disasters and how these well affect our wells.
What happens to my Direct Debit once I have finished paying for my well?
Your well project is assigned to our field partners during the 12-month payment period, and once your final instalment is received, we will begin the process of completing your well and provide you with your feedback report as soon as possible. If your Direct Debit is not cancelled, your contributions will automatically be directed towards another well project, which will also take 12 months to fund. Should you choose to cancel your Direct Debit before the full cost of a well has been covered, your donations will be added to our Thirst Relief Fund and be used to support other life-changing water projects. Payments will continue until you cancel your Direct Debit, which you can do at any time by contacting your bank or our team directly.
Every non-Zakat donation you give to this appeal is allocated between delivering life-changing programmes for beneficiaries in the field and covering the essential administration, fundraising and charity overheads that enable our work. This balanced approach ensures your generosity creates real impact while upholding the strong governance, safeguarding and accountability standards expected of us as a UK registered charity. Your Feedback Reports: When you donate towards this project, you’ll benefit from regular insights into the incredible impact of your contributions.
